Meet our Science and Technology Premier Partner – Bayer

May 10, 2017

Over the coming months, we will be introducing you to some of our Premier Partners to share in their words why the Global 4-H Network Summit is important. We are grateful to work with partners who support the vision of 4-H globally and thank all our partners for their generous contributions to the Global 4-H Network Summit.

For this post, we sat down with Komie Hossini, Communications Business Partner, Crop Science at Bayer Inc. to learn more about who they are and why they are excited to support the Global 4-H Network Summit.

Q: Briefly describe what your company does.

A: Bayer is a global life science organization focused on health care and agriculture. Our products and services are designed to benefit people and improve their quality of life. Bayer is committed to the principles of sustainable development and to its social and ethical responsibilities as a corporate citizen.

Q: Why are you excited to be part of the global 4-H movement?

A: The future is in the hands to today’s youth and we need empowered, thoughtful and compassionate leaders to guide society. We see 4-H providing opportunities for youth to develop and nurture these values. We also really enjoy the great discussions which happen when you get hundreds of 4-H youth from diverse backgrounds and experiences together in a room and we are looking forward to these opportunities during the Summit.

Q: What is your favourite 4-H memory or proudest 4-H moment?

A: My favourite experience working with 4-H was when we partnered on the first Youth Ag-Summit in Calgary, Canada. This event’s success was due in part to great partners we worked with, including 4-H. It proved to me the great work many hands can do together—especially when those hands are at 4-H.

Q: What does your company see as the greatest area of change youth have the power to affect?

A: Everything! Name something youth aren’t having an effect on today and in the coming years? They’re influenced by everything around them, and therefore influencing the rest of the world in how they interact with it. I think engaging youth more often in the issues they will need to face in the future will create a more educated, empathetic and experienced society.

Q: What do you hope delegates will learn about your company during the Summit?

A: We hope delegates will learn how much can be accomplished through the power of science, innovation and a passion to succeed.

Q: What do you hope to learn from the global 4-H delegates attending the Summit?

A: We hope to learn more about the opportunities or challenges delegates see ahead of them and where they want to focus their energy to make the world a better place.

Q: What kind of positions and career opportunities does your company offer for youth interested in working in your field?

A: We have an excellent summer associate program at Bayer in a number of fields, of which the Crop Science Division’s summer program is the largest. Bayer has been named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for over a decade running and one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.

Bayer representatives will be on hand throughout the Summit and in the Opportunities Expo. You can learn more about their Science & Technology Pillar Partnership with 4-H Canada during the 4-H Canada Showcase on Wednesday, July 12 at 10:30am.
